Choosing a Location for your Fashion Boudoir Shoot
Think of your Boudoir Session as a photographic editorial of you and all of your glory! Naturally, that would mean we should shoot within the surroundings of your own environment—for many reasons, this isn’t always an option. The good news is we aren’t limited by space, you’d be surprised with what I can do with just an empty room and a window!
So let’s chat locations... If your home is unavailable for any reason, my home studio in San Ramon, California is available. Other ideas include a local Airbnb, hotel room, or a friend’s home. No matter what, it is important you are choosing a space where you feel comfortable and we can have privacy with absolutely no distractions.
When photographing in homes, I first will need a tour of the land and I want to see everything—including secret passageways, rooftops, apartment building basements and outdoor sheds—you never know what will inspire a shot! Airbnb has a lot of uniquely designed spaces to consider, when selecting a space its a good idea to select a space where the decor fits your personal aesthetic and has lots of natural window light. While walking through the space I am looking for little nooks of interest and patterns of light that we can make a moment out of. Together we will chat about any personal elements you might want to include and we will map out potential shots to consider. I love including pieces like your favorite chair or rug or plant.
This was one of the many sets we created for my Skog Gone Rogue retreat. We already had a sweet location and the light was perfection. But we wanted to add a little more interest. I kept stepping on this beautiful rug and I just knew I wanted to shoot with it somehow, this was it’s moment! I love how it adds a boho vibe to the scene and gave her a frame to play with.
What are some pieces you would like to include in our next shoot?
STYLING this SHOOT
Here are a few shots from one of my Skog Gone Rogue Boudoir Retreats where several female photographers gathered to learn boudoir photography and practice on each other. It was a great way to get a dose of what your client goes through during a photo shoot! We had THE BEST TIME!
We wanted something she would naturally wear comfy around the house, but we sexed it up a little by getting rid of the bra (hello side-boob!) and added a black leather wedge heel she had in her collection. She’s a little bit boho and we wanted to add some unexpected pieces without overwhelming the shot. She was drawn to this wool fedora and I was obsessed with a runner I kept walking on in the house! So we jazzed up the fence, created a little more drama by closing the frame while covering unwanted elements in the background. Get the look below and let us know what you think!
